"...excellent musicians....and interesting programs..." Sierra Ensemble performs to great acclaim!

Sierra Ensemble performed a rousing concert at the Piedmont Center for the Arts on June 3, 2023. Their signature piece, the Brahms Trio in Eb major Op. 40, was flawlessly and passionately performed, moving the audience to a rousing standing ovation! With the early 20th century piece Crépuscules for horn and piano by Elsa Barraine, Janis demonstrated her keen control and insightful phrasing. Sierra Ensemble was also joined by esteemed oboist Felisa Simon who performed selections from the Britten Six Metamorphoses after Ovid Op. 49 as well as joining Janis and Marc in a crowd pleasing favorite by Carl Reinecke, the Trio in A minor Op. 188 for oboe, horn and piano. Heidi Trefethen provided excellent sound support and recording of this event. These will be posted and available online shortly.

One of the highlights of the performance was the wonderful program notes provided and read by Dr. Sarah Waltz, Associate Professor and Program Director for Music History at the University of Pacific. Renowned violinist and scholar Joe Gold greatly enjoyed the addition of the program notes and highlighted the entire performance in the Piedmont Post. Here is the link, please scroll to page 18. He even included a wonderful post-performance photo! Thank you Joe!
