Sierra Ensemble performs duos as well as trios on our upcoming Aprli 9, 7:00 pm concert at the Berkeley Piano Club.
One of our featured composers: Meet Lili Boulanger through two of her works for violin and piano, "Nocturne" and "Cortège". Born on 21 August 1893, Marie-Juliette Olga ‘Lili’ Boulanger was one of the 21st century’s brightest stars in music and the arts.
A promising talent from a very early age, Boulanger was a multi-instrumentalist and pioneering composer, who shared her musical genius with the world right up to her untimely death in 1918, at just 24 years old.
The concert include duos and trio by Elsa Barraine, Koechlin, Mozart, Strauss, and Ewazen!

Sierra Ensemble Performs New Music and Old Favorites in Piedmont June 3, 2023
Sierra Ensemble is thrilled to perform the Trio for Oboe, Horn and Piano by Carl Reinecke with our featured guest artist Felisa Simon. In addition, Felisa will perform the Benjamin Britten “Metamorphoses after Ovid”, Op.49 for Oboe Solo. The program includes a horn and piano duo by Elsa Barraine, “Crépuscules”, as well as the Trio in Eb Major, opus 40 for Horn, Violin, and Piano by Johannes Brahms.

Sierra Ensemble performs the premieres of two genre-expanding new works for horn, violin and piano:
World premiere of “Trio For Violin, French horn and Piano”, composed by Richard Aldag and commissioned by Sierra Ensemble with the support of the Musical Grant Program, which is administered by InterMusic SF, and supported by the Clarence E. Heller Charitable Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, and San Francisco Grants for the Arts.
U.S. premiere of “Chaopolis”, by Turkish composer Tolga Özdemir, commissioned by Sierra Ensemble and funded by the Turkish American Composer’s Project in Istanbul, Turkey.
